Desafinado piano

Un reconocido pianista vuelve a los escenarios después de cinco años de parón debido a su miedo escénico. Al abrir la partitura de su pieza se encuentra con un mensaje que le amenaza a tocar sin errar en una sola nota o, de lo contrario, sufrirá las consecuencias.

Thriller que fue el encargado de inaugurar nuestro querido festival de Sitges, dirigido por el español Eugenio Mira (Agnosia y The Birthday), producido por Rodrigo Cortés (Buried) y protagonizado por Elijah Wood (el tan conocido Frodo de El Señor de los Anillos) y John Cusack (Cómo ser John Malkovich y El Mayordomo).

Película de dirección española y ejecución americana, buen intento de exteriorizar nuestro cine. Lástima que sólo se quede en eso, en otra buena intención.

Grand Piano es un sencillo thriller de corta duración con una buena puesta en escena y una meticulosa fotografía. Y con sencillo me refiero a que tiene un guión bastante simple y, para tratarse de una película de suspense donde toda la acción está contenida en un único espacio, le falta algo más de intriga o alguna vuelta de tuerca. Este hecho es un arma de doble filo ya que tiene mucho mérito conseguir mantener al espectador entretenido pero, a la vez, es peligrosa por ese mismo motivo, porque no sepa captar la atención del público durante el transcurso de toda la película.

En este caso, no pienso que esto la condene debido a que se salva por el poco rato que dura la cinta y se agradece  que no se alargue en las escenas más críticas, con lo cual, no da opción a perder el interés en la historia. Aunque, si el espectador es una persona poco conformista, seguramente no se quede demasiado satisfecho con el desarrollo de la obra por lo ya comentado de ser simplona.

Por otro lado, un punto bastante positivo que tiene el largometraje es la presencia de Elijah Wood, el cual aporta elegancia a la vez que el toque de glamour que le falta al cine español. Fórmula que puede que sea la solución a nuestros problemas, claros ejemplos de éxito son Lo Imposible o Buried, de dirección española pero reparto estadounidense.

En definitiva, película medianamente aceptable que no te hace romperte para nada la cabeza con la que se puede pasar un breve entretenimiento. Aunque no acabe de convencer, esta puede ser la línea para el crecimiento del cine español.

Off-key piano

A well known pianist comes to the stages after a break of five years due to his stage fright. When opening the score of his piece, he finds a message which threats him to play without missing a note or otherwise he will suffer the consequences.

Thriller that was the responsible of inaugurating our beloved Sitges Festival, directed by the Spanish Eugenio Mira (Agnosia and The Birthday), produced by Rodrigo Cortés (Buried) and starred by Elijah Wood (the so famous Frodo from the Lord of the Rings) and John Cusack (Being John Malkovich and The Butler).

Film of Spanish management and American performance, a good attempt to externalize our cinema. Shame that only stays on that, another good intention.

Grand Piano is a simple thriller of short duration with a good staging and a meticulous photography. And with simple I mean that it has a very plain script and, for being a mystery movie where all the action is contained in a unique place, it misses some more suspense or some twist. This fact is a double-edged sword as it has much merit keeping the viewer entertained but, at the same time, it is dangerous for this same reason, for not being capable of engage the public during the course of the entire film.

In this case, I do not think that this fact sentences the tape as it is saved for the few time it lasts and it is grateful that it is not extended too much in the more critical scenes, it does not give any option to lose the interest in the story. Although, if the viewer is a nonconformist person, he probably will not be too satisfied with the development of the play for, what already commented, being so simplistic.

In the other hand, a very positive point of the feature film is the presence of Elijah Wood, who brings elegancy while the touch of glamour that lacks in the Spanish cinema. Formula that may be the solution to our problems, clear examples of success are The Impossible or Buried, with Spanish direction but American cast.

In short, moderately acceptable film that does not make you breaking your head with it and you can spend a short entertainment. Although the film is not quite convincible, this could be the line to follow for the growth of the Spanish cinema.
